At the pointe clinic we have over 20 years of experience. Lisa has danced professionally is an experienced ballet teacher, Lisa uses her knowledge of anatomy and experience as a professional dancer to fit the best shoes for each individual dancer.
I'll fitting pointe shoes can be very uncomfortable and can cause injury's, from blisters to stress fracture's, shoes should fit closely with the shape of the foot.
Fittings can take between 20 -60 minutes, this allows time for the feet, lower limb and posture to be properly assessed, and a number of styles of shoe to be tried on.
We want to make sure every dancer goes home with the correctly fitted pair of pointe shoes. If we do not feel we have found the right pair we will invited you back for a second fitting after we have sourced different shoes.
Pointe shoes wont feel like any other shoes you will wear
New pointe shoes will feel snug and hard, you will feel some pressure on the end of the shoe and at the sides.
When in a demi plie your big toe should touch the end of the shoe, but should not be curled or pushed against the end.
When En pointe it is normal for the material at the heel to "bag" as the foot moves down into the shoe.
The shoe should give support but not prop the dancer up.
Pointe shoes do not last forever, they break down over time. The life of a pointe shoe depends on how much pointe work is being done.
Feet also change as we grow and develop what was right when we started pointe work, may not be right a few years down the line.
This is why it is important to come for regular fittings as we can asses if the shoe is still the correct one for your feet.
Each brand of shoe has its own merits, there is no perfect shoe that is right for everyone. It is a process of trial and error.
